Arjen van der Kieft is one of the Dutch top ice speed skaters and trains together with the German team of Olimpic Speed Skating Champion Anni Friesinger. His Coach, also former Olimpic Champion, Gianni Romme makes together with Marten Horstman Arjen's trainingscedules and do the coaching. Arjen was 4th and 7th at the single distances Championships at 10.000m and 5000m and will start at the 10.000m Olimpic Games at Vancouver at the 23th of Februari 2010.
In the past Arjen van der Kieft have been junior national Champion twice and first at the Junior Worlds at the 5k in Roseville (US). Last season he won the 5.000 and 10.000m at the Winter Universiade of Harbin China

9-1-2010 Klobenstein, Italy - Trainingsrace 500 en 1000m
Under wintercondition the trainingsteam Friesinger skated today a trainingsrace on the Ice Rink Ritten at Klobenstein Italy. With snow on the track and minus 3 Celcius, Arjen van der Kieft skated a 40.20 at the 500m. It's not his favorite distance, but belongs to the allround wich he is going to skate next weekend at the Zilverenschaats/Gruno at Groningen and at the Dutch Allround Championships at the end of the season.
At the 1000m Arjen van der Kieft finished just before his teammate Bart van Wanrooy in a time of:1:16.76 and Bart van Wanrooy: 1:16.79. It was a close finish wich was dicided at the last fifty meters of the race.
Daan Rottier and Anni Friesinger skated a 1500m and were happy with their results on the snowcoverd track. Anni is looking forward to her Olimpic race in Vancouver with this result here in Klobenstein. |
30-12-09 Heerenveen, Netherlands - Arjen Qualifies for the Olimpic 10.000m!
With a fantastic race against Bob de Jong, Arjen skated to a ticket for the Olimpic 10.000m of Vancouver 2010. Arjen skated the second time behind Bob de Jong.
Besides a ticket for the Games, Arjen also skated a personal best, he skated almost 2 seconds faster than his last race in Hamar. In total he skated almost 32 seconds faster than his personal best from last season.
Tomorrow Arjen will travel to Klobenstein/Collabo, Italy to train with his traininginsteam of Anni Friesinger. Here he can prepare himself optimal for the Olimpic race on the 23th of February. Arjen travels back home at 11 January. |
13-12-09 Eindhoven, Netherlands - Arjen 3th at 3000m
After a good first day yesterday at the Eindhovencup, Arjen showed today a good 3000m, he was thirt in a time of 4:58.04. Arjen 'll focus himself next week in Erfurt, Germany at the AKT. The AKT is the Qualification for het Olimpic Winter Games en will be skated on 27 till 30 December in Thialf, Heerenveen. Arjen starts 27 December at 5000m and 30 December at the 10.000m. Arjen has to Win the 5000m to Qualify himself for the Olimpics, at 10.000m he has to be at the first two skaters. |

With a gold medail at the 5000m Eindhoven Cup Arjen van der Kieft Qualifies himself for the National Allround Championschips at 6 and 7 March 2010.
This Weekend in Eindhoven ther is the Eindhoven Cup over 500, 5000, 1500 and 3000m. After 500-5000m Arjen is 10th in the classement. |

Maybe you ar asking, two of the Dutch skaters aren't starting at 5000m, but where are Arjen van der Kieft and Ted-Jan Bloemen? Arjen van der Kieft didn't get a message that it was possible for him to start, he had to read from the KNSB site and NOS teletekst that there were a lot of sick skaters in Salt Lake City. |
26-11-09 Heerenveen, Netherlands - Arjen thirth at Skate-off World Cup 5000m
Unfortunally Arjen van der Kieft wasn't fast enough to qualifiy himslef for the World Cup of Calgary and Salt Lake City. With a good race and only one second above is personal best, Arjen skated the thirt time, behind Wouter Oldeheuvel and Bob de Vries.
At this Skate-off was only one place available for the World Cup 5000m. Bob and Arjen are first and second reserve if one of the Dutch skaters get sick or indured. Arjen will travel to Calgary or Salt Lake City if it seems that someone is getting sick or is injured and not fit enough to start.

22-11-09 Hamar, Norway- Van der Kieft Winner B-Division in New Track Record!
Van der Kieft suprisses himself with a new personal best and a new trackrecord in the Vikingskiped of Hamar. With a fantastic time of 13:04.38 he won the B-division 10.000m World Cup Hamar.
Later this day Sven Kramer took his old trackrecord back in the A-division. Arjen was fifth of the day with is time of 13:04.38.

15-11-09 Erfurt, Germany - Trainingsrace before World Cup
Last Saturday Arjen van der Kieft skated a 3:52.10 at 3000m, not as fast as last trainingcamp here in Erfurt, but after a hard week of training a good preperation for the World Cup of next weekend in Hamar, Norway.
Arjen van der Kieft 'll start at the 10.000m, at Sunday 22 November. He will start in the B-division because he don't have any points because he was not qualified fir the 5000m of Heerenveen and Berlin. Arjen was the second reserve for these reces.
Arjen will travel to hamar on the 18th of November.

Tody during the Single Distance Championships, Arjen van der Kieft skated the 7th time at 5000m, in his pail versus Koen Verweij, Arjen skated a time of: 6:29.95. The ice was heavy and in the middle part of Arjen's 5000m he hat some problems with entering the curves, he lost some speed there. In the and of the race he could handle with the heavy conditions and made better curves entries. He is looking forwart to his 10.000m on sunday.

24-10-09 Erfurt, Germany - Fast trainingsrace before NK
During the last trainingrace befor the Dutch Single Distance Championsships from 30 October - 1 November. He skated a porsonal best time for Europe, just two seconds behind his personal best. Arjen was in Erfurt second behind Enrico Fabris (Italy), 3:43.90. Arjen skated 3:48.67.
Friday will Arjen start at the 5000m and at the 1st of November he will skate the 10.000m. The Dutch Single Distance Championschips will be the qualification for the World Cups. |
14-10-09 Groningen, Netherlands - Van der Kieft 'll skate Single Distance 5000m!
Today Arjen van der Kieft skated to a fourth place at the 5000m qualification for the Dutch Single Distance Championships, on 30th October in Heerenveen. His time today, 6:39.50 was short behind Renz Rotteveel (6:38.48). The fastest skaters from todays 5000m meter where Jan Blokhuijsen and Bob de Vries (6:30.85 and 6:35.30).
Arjen is going to prepare himself with a trainingcamp in Erfurt, Germany and he will skate there on the 24th of October a trainingsrace 3000m.

03-10-09 Erfurt, Germany - Fast Season Opening!
Arjen started this season really fast at 5000m. He started in the Gunda Nieman-Stirnemanhalle, in the last quartet against Boris Kusmirac. The first rounds where close or in lead for Kusmirac. After running in the first skaters of het quartet Arjen made an acceleration and hold his fast lap times till the finish, his time: 6:30.43.
This time is a good preparation for het qualifications in ten days in Groningen, for the single distance Championships.

15-05-09 Cecina, Italy
Arjen van der Kieft is now more then a week training in the Italian town Cecina in Toscane, Italy. The summer season startet here with hard training for the 2010 Olimpics of Vancouver. Together with the training team of Anni Friesinger they are cycling, running, inlineskating, weight training and of course enjoying the nice weather! The team will stay here till the 20th and will travel to Kühtai on 2nd of June, for a trainingsstage up in the mountains of Austria.

Cycling is getting better and better for Arjen van der Kieft. Also the worser roads he can handle without major problems. Exept for cycling and running there is also time to relax at Lanzarote. This training stage is just a warm up for the coming season.

Cycling for the first time since Arjen broke his ellbow. Just a short ride over the nicest road as possible, holes and bumps in the road are still painfull.

14-04-09 Zwanenburg, The Netherlands, Broken Ellbow update (2)
With visiting the docter at the Spaarne Hospital in Hoofddorp, the doctor was suprised of the fast recovering of the ellbow and that the movement boundries are a lot better then last week, normaly there is almost no movement possible with this fracture.

06-04-09 Zwanenburg, The Netherlands, Broken Ellbow update (1)
Just three days ago Arjen broke his ellbow, the docters told a total rest for one week, but the recovery seems a little bit faster. To lose not to much muscles Arjen started to move his elbow again. The movement is not that much as normal, the pain boundries are between 10-20 degrees of movement, and rotating the arm is almost impossible. 03-04-09 Zwanenburg, The Netherlands, Broken Ellbow
Today Arjen crashed with is bike, due to technical problems. He fell, just 500m from home. With this fall, in his underarm, in the radiushead near the ellbow there is a crack in his bone, it is not totally throug. If there is still hope to train at Lanzarote in two weeks, Arjen don't know, normaly there is a recovery time of 6 weeks for this fracture. |
15-03-09 Zwanenburg, The Netherlands, Next Season Trainingsteam Friesinger Again
Next season Arjen van der Kieft will skate with the same team as last year. Together with Anni Friesinger (Ger), Pamela Zoellner (Ger), Judith Hesse (Ger), Anton Hahn (Ger), Daan Rottier (Ned), Bart van Wanrooy (Ned) and Johan van Wijk (Ned) with coach Gianni Romme. For next season Arjen and the other Dutch skaters their sponsor, Alfa Accountants and advisors, will sponsor again.
The first trainingsstage will be at Lanzarote, Canarian Islands, Spain and start 19th of April. |
27-02-09 Harbin, China, Winter Universiade (4), Back Home
After a good tournament for Arjen van der Kieft, the Dutch team had to travel home again. There was not enough time to stay for the closing ceremonial. What Arjen have seen on internet, that was a pitty, but no worry, they had their own party with the Dutch skating team. Arjen was substitute for the Team Pursuit but he didn't skate because the team was in a good shape, but the didn't made the podium, their result was a fourth place. |
25-02-09 Harbin, China, Winter Universiade (3), Gold 10000m!
Today the 10.000m was on the Winter Universiade Ice Speed Skating Program. It was a heavy race today for Arjen van der Kieft, who made a fast start, but after 7000m almost died. His opponent Artem Belousov came fast nearby Arjen. The two skaters were skating the last 2000m together against the pain in there leggs. The dissision of this race was made in the last 100meters, in profit of Arjen van der Kieft, just 0,06 seconds ahead of Artem Belousov. The winning time was also a track record of the Heillongjang Speed Skating Gym of Harbin. Arjen's time today was: 13:35.31. Renz Rotteveel took the thirt place.

20-02-09 Harbin, China, Winter Universiade (2), Gold 5000m!
After a spectaculair race Arjen van der Kieft skated the fastest and a new track record time at the Heillongjang Speed Skating Gym in Harbin, China. His time 6:29... the second time was for another Dutch skater, Renz Rotteveel, the thirt place was for Artem Belousov. Arjen's time was also good for a Winter Universiade record, wich was from the Dutch Ice Speed Skater Mark Ooijevaar. The old record was skated in Turin, Italy.

Today the Dutch team had it's first ice training at the rink in Harbin, nice and flat ice, just a litte soft, but good for training. It is good that the races are in a ice rink hall and not outsite with the temperatures from today (-19 C - -13 C)Together with the team Arjen made a trip to the center of Harbin and visited the Ice Sculpture Festival of Harbin.

08-02-09 Groningen, Van Kieft Wins 10.000m at Gruno Bokaal
This weekend Arjen got a really fast time at the 10.000m at the Gruno Bokaal in Groningen. He was only three seconds above the track record of Sven Kramer. His time at the 10.000m: 13:45.45. At the 5km Arjen reaced the 3th place with a time of: 6:39.20. In the Allround classement he was 6th (500-5000-1500-10000m) |

Everyone has started at the 5000m, so this weekend was just for training, Arjens' next goal will be the Gruno Bokaal in Groningen. There he'll skate the allround (500-5000-1500-10000m). |
29-01-09 Erfurt, World Cup or training?
Tomorrow the World Cup will start in the Gunda Niemand-Stirnemann Halle, Erfurt. Arjen is training on the good ice wich is in the best conditions for the World Cup. He is still the first reserve, but someone get sick or indured he may skate! Also if Arjen isn't skating he get the profit of good ice, training with the best skaters of the World on the ice and being together with his German team, Anni Friesinger, Judith Hesse and Pamela Zoellner with trainer Gianni Romme.

Todays race was good but not good enough again today. The result was a thirt place, so also at the first reserve for 10.000m at Heerenveen at the 15th February. Because Arjen isn't skating World Cup he is going to the Winter Universiade at Harbin, China 22nd and 25th of February 2009.

Tomorrow will be the dissision who is going to skate the World Cup 5000m in Erfurt. Arjen van der Kieft will start tomorrow in the last pair in the outerlane against Mark Ooijevaar. At the 5000m there is one place left to qualify and two places at 10.000m.

After the fireworks and champagne Arjen and the rest of the team skated the 500m 1000m for the ladies and 5000m for men. With cold temperatures it made it hard to skate outsite today. Arjen skated today: 39.76 and 6:48.23

28-12-08 Scharsterbrug/Heerenveen/Klobenstein, No NK Allround
Yesterday it become clear, no Nationals for Arjen van der Kieft. Now he travels to Collabo/Klobenstein in the North-Itallian Alps, to skate outsite and prepare hisself for the World Cup Skate-off. He will stay here with the trainingteam of Anni Friesinger till the 8th of January 2009. Anni and the other Germans are preparing themselfes for the World Champions Sprint and the World Cup Sprint.
The Weather in Collabo/Klobenstein is this year a little colder then normal, but still ideal for skating, in the Night temperatures below freezing point and by day nice sunshine!

Still nobody sick, injured or mentally broken! The possibility to skate at the National Allround becomes smaller and smaller. Still preparing to skate, later this day Arjen will know of he starts.

21-12-08 Berlin, Trainingrace 500m-1000m
After recovering of the 5000m of last weekend, Arjen started in a trainingrace over 500 and 1000m, not his specialty, but good for training! Next week he is the second reserve for the Dutch Allround Champions so he have to prepare hisself at a fast start at 500m, to keep the gap between the sprinters as smal as possible. 14-12-08 Berlin, Fast 5000m for Van der Kieft
It's only a trainingrace, but Arjen needed a fast time to quallify himself for the Skate-off for the World Cup next month. After the fast first 7 laps it started to be heavy, and the laptimes became slower. But after all with the fast opening he still skated a season best time and a time just 0.2 sec fast enough to quallify hisself for the Skate-off. His time was: 6:32.24 |
12-12-08 Berlin, Back on the fast Ice
After Lanzarote Arjen van der Kieft stayed a short time home and traveled to maybe the fastest ice from Europe, Berlin. The trainingsteam will stay there till the 21st, and skate a race on Sunday. |
04-12-08 Lanzarote, Wind Surfing near Club la Santa
A traincamp is not training all day long, but sometimes there is space to relax. Today Arjen van der Kieft choosed a sport witch in the Netherlands only in summer pleasant is: Wind Surfing. The other trainings where a 2:50hrs cycletour over the iland (76km) and a sprint training with the race bike.

Since the 1st of december Arjen van der Kieft is training at Club la Santa at the Spanish Island Lanzarote. He is there training with the team of Anni Friesinger. He is taking a short break off-ice there to put up a lot of Sun-Energy. He'll stay at Lanzarote till the 7th. |

31-11-08 Zwanenburg, Van der Kieft 10th at Eindhoven Cup
Last weekend the qualify races for the nationals allround were be skated in Eindhoven. Unless the 3th place at the 5k Arjen van der Kieft didn't made it to qualify for the allround. He was 18th at the classement of 500, 1500 and 5000m. The Einhoven Cups classement was over four distances, the 500, 1500, 5000 and 3000m, Arjen lost to many time at his sprint distances, the 500 and 1500m.
Tomorrow he will travel to Club la Santa at the Canarian island Lanzarote for a cycling traincamp |
